SAVE MONEY WHEN
ADOPTING!
The tax credit is currently $10,630 per adopted child. This credit can
also be obtained for monies spent on qualifying adoption expenses for
failed adoptions. The credit can be claimed for up to 5 tax years. The
adoption tax credit begins to phase out for families with joint incomes
of $159,450 and is completely phased out at a joint family income of
$199,450.
This is extremely good
news especially for those thinking about international adoption. In
most cases, when adopting two children, the second child would actually
decrease the cost of the entire adoption rather than cost you more.
SCAMS
Scams are actually old news, but they are increasing in number. Be careful
when choosing your agency. Families are being promised children that
don't exist and being charged for it! A good article to read regarding
this is called "The Adoption Maze" in the March 12, 2001 issue of U.S.
News magazine. Two other good stories about adoption scams can be found
